Celebrating Wins and the Power of the Checkmark

If you’re the type of person who is trying to get ahead in life, I’m sure you know the feeling of always having something else to do. The list of things to complete your projects can seem daunting at times.

When you have many things to do or many steps to accomplish what you want in life, it’s important that you celebrate the little wins as you move towards the goal of achieving what you want.

Celebration

You can celebrate your wins and your milestones in many different ways. If you have accomplished something big, you may want to celebrate in a big way, like going to a nice restaurant with your loved ones and having a nice dinner, for example.

You have to accomplish many small things to get there on your way to accomplishing big things. I always recommend that you celebrate small wins the same way you celebrate big wins.

Celebrating all your wins is a good way to keep you motivated and focused as you work to accomplish all the things you want to in life.

Celebrating can be as small as having a frozen yogurt or just taking a 15-minute break to enjoy a coffee, reflecting on the win you just had. It doesn’t have to be big; it just has to allow you to take some time to acknowledge you are moving closer to getting what you want.

One of the things that I’ve been amazed at as I go through life is the power of charting and checking off your accomplishments.

The power of the checkmark

The power of the checkmark can never be underestimated. This is one of the most powerful things I’ve experienced in my life. I’m sure you have experienced the power the checkmark yourself, but maybe you didn’t take notice of it when it was happening.

It took me a while to notice how powerful the checkmark is, but I’ve experienced it firsthand by using it myself and also by seeing others use it.

I’ve known people who’ve wanted to quit smoking and who’ve used the checkmark to quit. At the end of each day in which they didn’t smoke a cigarette, they would place an ‘X’ or a checkmark for that day on a calendar.

X on calendar

The power of the checkmark is so powerful that when people stop using it, they relapsed back into the habit of smoking again. I have seen some who go six months or more without smoking a cigarette just to go back to it. For some reason, they must’ve felt that they have beaten the bad habit, so they stop marking off the days on the calendar in which they go without a cigarette. But, without the positive confirmation they received from putting a checkmark on the calendar, they go back to their old ways.

The power of the positive confirmation

The same phenomenon happens with people who attend alcoholic anonymous meetings. The positive confirmation they receive from attending meetings keeps them focused on beating their addiction. Once they stop attending the meetings because they feel they have finally beaten the addiction many relapse and go back to drinking.

The power of the positive confirmation that you receive from checking off, charting and celebrating the small wins and reaching of milestones as you progress through life truly cannot be underestimated. The power it has to keep you focused and to help you move towards everything you want is truly something awesome.

What win will you celebrate today?
